Did a Security Failure Contribute to the Senseless Shooting of Four Children?
Local News
Gunfire erupted outside the Parkwood at Cypress Station apartment complex in Houston, Sunday evening, June 11, 2017, reportedly leaving four children injured.
According to KPRC 2 News, an argument broke out between a “group of children, ranging in age from 12 to 16, and another group” outside the “Parkwood at Cypress Station Apartments.” A 16-year-old girl apparently suffered critical injuries in the attack. Three other young victims apparently suffered “non-life-threatening injuries.” Their current conditions have not been released.
The Texas chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense is speaking out and demanding action on the gun violence that plagues the United States and endangers young lives. “Simply put, children as young as 13-years-old should not be suffering from injuries related to gun violence,” according to a group volunteer, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. “We can no longer afford to live in a country where our children pay the price for our nation’s issue with gun violence.”

Our Legal Take
Generally, property owners are required to protect all residents and guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the young victims and their families may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for their injuries.
Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victims retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
