Did an Apartment Security Failure Contribute to the Shooting of a Young Bystander?
Local News
Gunfire erupted outside the Saints Courts apartment complex Thursday, August 3, 2017, reportedly leaving a 16-year-old bystander injured.
According to WMC Action News 5, the shooting occurred “near the Saints Courts Apartments on North Watkins at about 8 p.m.” WALB 10 reports, the young man “was an innocent bystander shot while walking to a relative’s house.”
WMC Action News 5 described the North Memphis neighborhood surrounding Saints Courts as a “war zone” in 2010, noting it was “infested with gangs and gunfire.” Sadly, it appears the gun violence has continued.

Our Legal Take
Generally, property owners are required to protect all residents and guests legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the apartment complex owner or management failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the young victim and his family may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for his injuries.
Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
