Could This Cocoa Shopping Center Shooting Have Been Prevented?
Local News
A 16-year-old boy was reportedly shot and injured after leaving Kingz Kutz Barber Shop in Cocoa Thursday afternoon, June 22, 2017.
According to News 6, gunfire erupted in the “parking lot of the Save-A-Lot plaza on 1208 Dixon Blvd.” The young victim was apparently shot while “backing out of [a] parking space.” He was airlifted to the hospital with injuries.
The barbershop owner apparently told Florida Today, he is “dismayed by some of the violence that has happened in Cocoa recently.” Three people were apparently injured in an apartment shooting only “a few blocks west of the plaza” earlier this month.

Our Legal Take
Generally, property owners are required to protect all patrons legally on the premises from any foreseeable harm. Should the facts of this matter reveal that the shopping center parking lot owner failed to provide adequate security to protect those on its premises, the young victim and his family may seek justice and elect to pursue legal claims for his injuries.
Based upon its prior successful experience in handling security negligence claims on behalf of victims and their families, The Murray Law Firm suggests that photographs and a thorough, unbiased inspection of the property will need to be performed immediately, before any evidence may be repaired, damaged or destroyed. Given the complexities of pursuing a negligent security case, it is imperative that the victim retain an experienced attorney who can ensure the preservation of any and all evidence that may support such a claim.
